– NEW YORK | WELCOME EDITION | JULY 23

This week was brilliant. You don’t usually get too much time to explore on work trips like this. For instance, I’ve been to Paris multiple times as a buyer and agent, never seen the Louvre. You’re too busy through the day and by night you just want to chill out. Not in the city that never sleeps!

First and foremost, the trade show. Welcome Edition in New York is a class act, if any buyers are on the fence…. GO! I particularly liked the tailored brand mix here, to name a few; Porter Yoshida Co, Red Wing, Drakes, WAX London, Castartt, Sandqvist, Battenwear, Oliver Spencer, Stan Ray. For my ‘buyers tip’, this time I have to say Earth Studies. I love the silhouettes, the colour palette and just their general aesthetic. One to watch.

Away from the showroom New York has absolutely everything and more. All the absolute fan favourites ticked off, Central Park, the High Line, the MET, Rockefeller, Williamsburg, Yankee Stadium.

Less tourists more fun – we bought tickets to see Rhythm Section at Public Records in Brooklyn, mental sound system and lots of fun. We found the Bronx Brewery in Hudson Yards - basically beer and constant bingo, with the chance to win more beer. Next, The Strand Bookstore on fourth avenue, established in 1927 it carries over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books.

A few notable places for food and drink. I’d recommend making the trek to Brooklyn Crab, a restaurant suggested to me for lobster rolls in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Walk around the corner to Strong Rope Brewery, views of the Statue of Liberty (in the far distance). There are lots of great spots for coffee in NYC, but La Cabra takes the biscuit for me. A friend suggested the Commodore in Brooklyn, fried chicken and beer. This is a top recommendation, one you wouldn’t stumble across, just go. We discovered a new found love for Tacos in NY, Los Tacos hits the spot.
